Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. And Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like You to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.” So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. (II Chronicles 14:9-12 ESV)
Numbers
Exchange rates between currencies can be confusing, but fun. In Japan, the cost of a new car generally ranges from ¥1,500,000.00. to ¥4,000,000.00. Those numbers look huge! But when you compare a yen to a dollar, you discover that really, new cars cost about the same in the USA.
Yen and dollars are like apples and oranges.
Even more-so is the comparison between the mighty Ethiopian army… a MILLION men… and those the mighty Egyptian army opposed… One.
A Million vs One.
And the One won.
In fact, the story of this war ends with the astonishing statement: “…the Ethiopians fell until none remained alive, for they were broken.” (II Chronicles 14:13 ESV).
When God is on one side of the equation, other numbers do not matter.
God wins.
God, because of Christ Jesus, won against the power of Sin.
God, through Christ Jesus, wins against Sin’s effects.
God, in Christ Jesus, wins against sorrows.
God, with Christ Jesus, wins against fear.
No matter how big the Sin, traumatic Sin’s effects, deep our sorrows, or rational our fears.
God has the numbers on HIS side.
