And when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. Once Again… WORSHIP as a Tactic
Righteousness… not an arrogant ‘better-than-you’ sort of thing… but simple obedience to God is simply the best tactic in any situation.
The Israelite army worshipped God.
And God routed the overwhelming superior enemy army.
On the surface and according to the world, the Israelites would have been better served by target practice, military training, map-study, and physical exercise. And perhaps the Israelites ALSO did those things…
But the thing that won the battle and the war was the strange illogical tactic of worshiping God.
But such a tactic is actually more logical than anything else!
Because the battle is the Lord’s.
Today, we trust our Armed Forces first and foremost to defend our borders. The Israelite Army worshipped God.
Today, we keep businesses open on the Lord’s Day because it makes economic sense. The Israelite Army worshipped God.
Today, we water down the Law of God AND the Gospel to be more attractive to the world. The Israelite Army worshipped God.
Worship. It’s the best tactic.
