And David lived in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And David built the city all around from the Millo inward. And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him. (II Samuel 5:9,10 ESV)
Greater
Great strategist… great tactician… great bravery… great motivator… great uniter… great vision… David as King of Israel was all of those things.
His consolidation of Israel’s borders, his constant defeat of arch-rival Philistia, his civil war victory, and his occupation of Jerusalem all are praiseworthy and dramatic moments.
But the greatest of all those things?
The Lord was with him.
What are you aiming at for success? What is your primary factor in figuring out your future? What is your goal and pathway?
Seek the Lord…
Because the Lord was with David, David became greater and greater.
He did the other things too… but only the Lord mattered.
