III John II: Regular

III John II

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (III John 4 ESV)

Regular

John does not say that his greatest joy is hearing that his spiritual children are leaping tall buildings in a single bound.  They are walking.

John does not say that his greatest joy is hearing that his spiritual children are running fast, hard, long, and tirelessly.  They are walking.

John does not say that his greatest joy is hearing that his spiritual children are effortlessly performing acts of amazing athleticism.  They are walking.

John, I expect would have had joy in those other things, too.

But his greatest joy is that they are living faithful lives in the mundane, every day, regular activities of life.

Because salvation looks like that, too.
