So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” (Genesis 22:14 ESV)
Replacement
Occasionally we all buy a new computer. Our old computers wear out. Fixing them becomes more and more impossible. The knowledge that newer, more advanced, more perfect computers are available makes us see our old computers with disappointment.
And the day comes when we replace our computer with something new.
It started with Arabs replacing their abacuses. And it will continue until we are replacing the BrainTM Computer chip in our heads.
The adventure of Abraham’s son Isaac on Mount Moriah hinted that God had an idea about replacement, too. A necessary idea. An amazing gracious plan.
God’s people are broken by our sins. From Adam onward, we have been wearing out. Whether our kernel of sin is a nugget or a mountain, we are ruined. We belong on that sacrifice-alter on Mt. Moriah. We cannot be fixed, or simply healed, or made good enough to avoid that death that is our due.
But God killed His beloved Jesus, instead.
He replaced us with His Son.
So that we do not suffer what we had deserved… because Jesus did.
So that we do not appear ruined in God’s holy eyes… because Jesus did.
So that we will be made completely whole… because Jesus was!
Remember, relax, and rejoice that God’s people were replaced.
